The old 1896 map of Eight Mile Creek.
I
have just received a copy of an 1897 Survey done at Eight Mile Creek.
This came to me as two drawings - one was the Hundred of Port
MacDonnell, and the other the Hundred of Caroline.
I have joined the two and scanned that section of interest, showing Eight
Mile Creek, Deep Creek and the area that contains Spencers Ponds and Drain
No 5.
I thought this of immense interest because it highlights that Eight Mile
Creek has always been Eight Mile Creek, and remains in the same spot to
day as it did over 100 years ago.
It also shows that Deep Creek once shared the same mouth as Eight Mile
Creek, and that Spencers Ponds is not recorded, which suggests this was
likely to be because it was under the water in the swamp.
I trust you will find this as interesting as I did.

Neville Skinner
